Alan Turing

A unique and inspiring location

We recently had the privilege of carrying out a photo shoot in the Alan Turing building at The University of Manchester.

The wonderful building houses the School of Mathematics as well as the Photon Science Institute and the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics.

The building was named after one of the faculty’s most prestigious alumni, Alan Turing. Mr Turing was a Reader in Mathematics at the University and is regarded as one of the founders of computer science.

His legacy is being instrumental in assuring the enduring freedom of the western world during WWII, by cracking the Enigma Code. The code was considered unbreakable and some of the allied forces leading brains had failed to crack it. Mr Turing was successful and being able to decode our enemy’s communications, brought the beginning of the end of WWII.

Mr Turing’s story has recently been retold by Hollywood, with our very own Benedict Cumberbatch being nominated for best actor at this year’s Oscars.

It was an honour to be welcomed in to this faculty and see the many students inspired by his legacy discussing their work as we moved around this wonderful building.

The shoot was for our Chicago based client, Planet Group, and it was a real privilege to be able to showcase the talent and history we have right here in the North West to a global audience.

We would like to thank Sebastian Rees at the University for his help and support during our shoot.
